Kia ora Whanau,
My name is Angela Houkamau and thank you for allowing me to represent our whanau on your trust. I have two sisters and a brother and although we live away from Northland we are keen to support any incentives that will support better houses, utilisation of whenua and/or whanau growth. My mother is Ani Witana and we are proud to be part of the Utakura Land Block. I live in Porangahau with my husband Ahuriri and own the local pub. If your ever in the neighbourhood call in and say Hi 😄

Kia ora, Te Arani Brady Toku Ingoa,
a proud trustee of the 1622 Ahu Whenua Trust. I’m deeply committed to the principles of stewardship, sustainability, and community development, and I’m honoured to play a role in preserving and enhancing the legacy of the Trust for future generations.
As a trustee, my focus is on ensuring that the assets and resources of the 1622 Ahu Whenua Trust are managed with integrity, transparency, and long-term vision. With a deep respect for our whenua and the communities we serve.
My mother is Puingahau Kaihe the second eldest of the 11 siblings from whom we succeed from to our beautiful whenua. She taught me how to be resilient, and the importance of empathy, kindness, and hard work.
I hope to apply these teachings in my role as a trustee and know she is guiding me to do the best I can to achieve and deliver the outcomes we can all be proud of.
"Kia ora e te whānau,
This is your whenua, your legacy, and your future! Our Ahu Whenua Trust represents everything we stand for – a connection to our tūpuna, a home for our whānau, and a vision for the generations yet to come.
Now is the time for us to come together, unite as one, and put in the mahi to ensure the future of our whenua and our people. Every decision we make, every step we take, is about creating a sustainable and thriving future for our tamariki and mokopuna.
With my background in health and safety, community wellbeing, and kaupapa Māori practices, I am committed to supporting this dream. I bring skills in planning, collaboration, and creating safe, sustainable environments, ensuring our goals are achieved with care and purpose. My role is to work alongside you, to listen, and to lead where needed, always keeping our whānau and whenua at the heart of what we do.
Whether it’s through your kōrero, your support, or your participation in kaupapa like this, everything you do contributes to building something greater. This is about more than governance – it’s about creating a community, a home, and a legacy we can all be proud of.
Together, we can protect our taiao, nurture our whenua, and ensure our kaupapa thrives. This is our opportunity to shape a future that reflects who we are and honours the dreams of our tūpuna.
Mā pango, mā whero, ka oti ai te mahi – together, we can achieve anything. Let’s continue to work for our whānau, for our whenua, and for the generations to come.
Mauri ora!

Of the generation that didn't have their reo and urban-born put her tamariki in Kohanga and Kura to ensure her tamariki had their Te Reo me ona Tikanga and could connect to Utakura. Being on the Ahu Whenua Trust and reconnecting with her whānau and hapu has been her highlight, while still learning more about her whakapapa and taha Māori she is committed to leaving an enduring legacy for her mokopuna.
